Radio Concrete #1

New sounds on Radio Papesse

PLAYLIST

Radio Concrete - produced by Hagai Izenberg - is an ongoing experimental sound project which combines field recordings together with radio broadcasting.

It is an exaggerated interpretation of sounds that we are exposed to every day in the public and domestic spheres, often in passing or involuntarily. Fresh raw materials including field recordings of our everyday routine, samples and loops from tv & radio, news editions and advertisements are all gathered on a regular basis and then mixed together on live radio broadcasting.

The radio show attempts to capture the busy modern lifestyle together with the daily news & events, tragedies and political discourse next to advertisements and entertainment.

Episode #1 uses a set of field recordings, two radio sets and a bunch of live streaming and recordings including news editions, sounds fromt the Uganda Tel-Aviv experimental festival, live sampling from Kol Hamusica and Reshet Bet, Chicago Police's radio dispatches - bits of shopping channels and chirps from Bird Song FM.

Hagai is a sound artist, composer and musician and a founder member of the electronic band Rendezvous. Born in 1978, he lives and works in Israel. His works make use of sounds which people are exposed to on a daily basis in a spontaneous and unplanned manner; from the immediate surroundings, the street and the radio. The result is a multi-layered restless composition created in real-time, using pre-recorded sound objects and live sources; a compressed sonic experience of our daily lives.
