Rooted in Marinella Senatore’s engage with collaboration and music, ESTMAN RADIO DRAMA, is a
participatory based project that aims at bringing together two different communities and locations: the
international art crowd that storms through Venezia in occasion of the Biennale, and a group of
workers and their families, of the chemical factories in the area of Marghera, the industrial district near
Venezia.

In the last years Senatore has been working with storytelling as a way to involve the public in the
making of an art work. in such projects, that take the form of collaborative films, installations, sound
pieces, books and photographic series, written with groups of people, often developed in collaboration
with institutions as museums and universities, Marinella Senatore uses music and memory (collective
and autobiographical) as places of exchange.

The narrative of her projects results of the interplay between fact and fiction, history and chronicle, thus
easing the engage of the viewer in recognizing his and her own story in the words recounted on the
work. in such sense, it fosters the construction of an archive of shared narratives that create a sense of
community.

For ESTMAN RADIO DRAMA, Senatore collaborated with local radios, local groups of theatre,
students from IUAV University and Ca 'Foscari University, and workers and ex workers of Marghera,
that she involved in the making of a radio drama, structured in 4 chapters, based on their memories
about aggregation and their special way to thinking about the collectivity.

ESTMAN is the name of a mobile theatre, that in the middle of ‘50s reached miners and workers sites in
the north of Spain, providing shows and entertainment for the workers and their families.

The participants have been involved in writing the radio drama, and directing it, that will be presented both in their community - through local radio - and at Biennale, thus connecting two geographically and
contextually different places.

The Ca’ Foscari University radio, in Venice, provided their studios in order to record the voices, and
several groups of theatre around Venice (in Marghera, Mestre, Chioggia, etc.) collaborated with the
artist providing actors professionals and not. The English version have be performed by students form the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama di Glasgow, UK, connecting different contexts.

During the first week of the Biennale's opening, all the italian college radios, local radio stations,
indipendent network and national radio networks, (more than 75), from north to south of the peninsula,
will broadcast ESTMAN RADIO DRAMA.

Radio Papesse is joining the group and it will stream the radio dramma on Wednesday, June the 1st at 21:00 and on Friday June the 3rd at 11:00.
