SONORA

SadSud (2013) combines field recordings made in Palermo during the Festino di Santa Rosalia and some recordings of young clarinetist Gianluigi Volpi playing without authorization in the streets of Palermo.

Viola Mondello's aesthetic deals with issues of traces, fragments and the impossibility of recovering historical meaning. In her work, Viola seeks to learn from forgotten places and ideas. Ruins become a transmitter of the past, they serve as ideological catalyists, to create new meanings. The acoustic of ruins is a new type of space, the past intermingling with the present, revealing nothing about their identity but subtly altering and transforming our present environment.
